 Travel Tips

Blue, warm waters surround Belize which is part of the Caribbean Sea. Here, you can see schools of fishes swimming merrily in the ocean alongside dolphins and thousands of turtles. Living in Belize means swimming in warm waters all the time. Living in Belize also means you never have to experience another cold lonely winter because this is tropical paradise all year round.

For bird watchers, living in Belize means they get a chance to go to parks with their binoculars and observe over 500 species of birds. Living in Belize means always digging your toes in white sand. Living in Belize means having the chance to trek in the lush rain forests of Belize and explore the flora and fauna of this quaint Central American island.

Living in Belize means adapting to a carefree lifestyle and making friends with the warmest and most accepting people.

Wouldn't you want to live in Belize? You can if you want to. Let us show you how to achieve that dream.

There are three options you can choose from when retiring and living in Belize.

The first is to apply for an extended visa that allows you to stay for years. All you have to do is apply for the card. If you are a member of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), you do not need to get a visa. You only have to get the travel tourist permit. It will cost you US $25 to apply and with a monthly fee of US $ 50, you can stay for 6 months and live hassle free. The members of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) are citizens from the USA, Mexico, Canada, Australia, Norway, UK, Venezuela, Costa Rica, New Zealand. With this set-up, you can get a feel of the place without committing fully to the prospect of living in Belize.

Another way to settle in Belize is to apply for official Belize permanent residency. What you do is you file an application for a Belize Permanent Resident card. The government agency handling this is the Belize Immigration Department in the city of Belmopan. You have to stay in Belize for one year in order to file an application at the Belize Immigration Department.

You will then fill out a Permanent Residency Application form. You will also have to undergo an HIV test. You need to have a police record with no criminal history, then you will collect recommendations from any local Belize resident. These residents will vouch for you and these are usually doctors, priests, lawyers or heads of government institutions or justices of the peace. The fee for the application is US $2000.
