Caribbean Style
The international Caribbean Carnival Association (I.C.C.A) is
an International umbrella organization, representing the interests of the
carnivals- sponsoring groups in the USA, Canada, England; Europe and the
Caribbean.
In the international community there are many celebrations
and festivals in
which a parade is the central feature. These parades may take the form of
marching bands, floats and other models relating to the culture and objectives
of their sponsors.
The I.C.C.A'S reference to its commitment to the promotion
and development of the Trinidad style carnival on the international community is
not intended to elevate any one country over another.
It is intended simply to distinguish and protect the
character of the I.C.C.A's product in relation to the many others in the world.
In other words. the model of carnival parade and festival to which the I.C.C.A
is committed, is one, which continues in the tradition of Calypso and Steel
Band, and of the typical Caribbean music; son„ dance and approach to
costuming.
The I.C.C.A believes that the Trinidad Carnival is the basis and
Historical model on which carnival sponsors in the USA, Canada, England, Europe
and the Caribbean have based their own parades and festivals. Thus the term i.e.
"Trinidad - Style Carnival."
