CARAMA is a production of the Capital District Caribbean American African Alliance, Inc. The Alliance is a non-profit charitable and cultural community organization dedicated to furthering the cultural heritage and the well being of its members through various cultural activities. It promotes Caribbean music, culture and new talent to the mainstream market in New York’s Capital District, Western, Northern and Central New York, and Western Massachusetts and Vermont. The organization was incorporated in July 1999.
The annual CARAMA festival is the centerpiece activity of the Alliance.The mission of CARAMA festival is to showcase the African cultural heritage of the peoples from the Americas, the Caribbean islands, and Africa in New York State’s Capital District. The main objective is to increase the pride of the peoples from the Americas, the Caribbean islands, and Africa, and enhance the quality of life in the Capital District.
The festival will not only showcase the rich and diverse cultural heritage of the aforementioned communities, but will also contribute to the economy of the Capital District. This annual event is organized by a group of volunteers from the Caribbean, the Americas and Africa, to bring a special flavor of African cultural heritage to the Capital District.
