The Grand Cayman Islands are situated in the south of Cuba and the northwest of Jamaica. It is one of the existing overseas territories of the British government. The Grand Cayman Islands is basically is the collection of three individual Island. They are Grand Cayman Island, Cayman Brac, and Little Cayman. It is a significant part of the Caribbean Island. In spite of being a part of the British territory, the Cayman Islands have become a part of the Caribbean culture. The citizens of this Island are also better known as the Caribbean people rather than British citizens.
The history of the Cayman Island says that this Island was first discovered by Christopher Columbus in May 1503. The famous mariner was discovered the Island when he was on the way of discovering of India. Sir Francis Drake was the first British who landed on the Island in 1586. He was the man who named the Island, Cayman Islands after the Neo-Taino nations. The first person to become the permanent citizen of the Island was Isaac Bodden. He was born in the year 1661.
The feature of the Island is that it surrounded by the several unprotected sea that increases the wild and natural beauty of the Island. At the same time, the same thing brings disaster for the Island as well. For example, the terrible Hurricane Ivan strokes the Island on the 11 and 12 September 2004. The horrible storm became so threatening for the Island because of the unprotected area of the Island. Eventually the disaster destroyed almost 90% of the power and water supply connections and it took several days for the authorities to overcome from the terrible memories. After the attack of Ivan, the total infrastructural shape of the Island was totally uprooted. The economy of the Island became under real threat. However, slowly and steadily, the people of the Island got rid of the bad memories and today they are back with their own Caribbean Calypso style.

As you can imagine that, the economic movement of such Island is predominantly dependent on the tourism. At least 70 to 75 percent of the national GDP per capita comes from the income of tourism. According to the report of the world economic forum, the national GDP per capita of the Cayman Island is the 12 highest in the world. Now this is eye squeezing economic performance for an Island like Cayman.
