European Union United Kingdom Cayman IslandsCorporate Groups Join Carnival

Cayman Batabano Carnival 2006

 Press Release

Wednesday, 29 March, 2006

Organisers of this year’s Cayman Carnival Batabano and title sponsor bmobile from Cable & Wireless are encouraging corporate groups to sign up now to participate on the road in the carnival celebrations.

With just over six weeks until the Batabano adult street parade on Saturday 13 May, it is now time to sign up and start arranging costumes to ‘jump’ on the road with the mas bands, DJs and steel bands at this cultural celebration.

“Being on the road during carnival is an uplifting experience,” commented Donna Myrie, Batabano Committee Chairman. “This is a great chance to join with colleagues and friends, have fun and promote your company at the same time. Whether you decide to wear full carnival costumes or corporate T-shirts, we welcome you to join us during this fantastic event.”

The corporate cup will be hotly contested this year with 12 groups already registered to participate including, Cable & Wireless bmobile, CUC, Cayman Airways, Quik Cash, Appleby Spurling Hunter, Red Cross and many of Cayman’s leading radio stations, such as, Vibe, Hot, Kiss, X107 and Radio Cayman.

“As last year’s Corporate Cup Winner Cable & Wireless is working towards retaining the coveted title. This win made our staff very proud and determined to come out on top again this year” remarked Andrea Fa’amoe, C&W Corporate Communications Manager.

"CUC has been involved in the Batabano Carnival parade since 2003 and won the corporate cup for two consecutive years. Our employees thoroughly enjoy the experience of masquerading for the entertainment of tourists and locals alike,” commented Caren Thompson, CUC’s Manager Corporate Communications.

“The two-mile parade route allows us to get some much needed exercise while relieving some stress by dancing to the latest carnival tunes from around the region. We encourage other companies to enter a group in the corporate section or lend their support to one of the mas bands, especially the schools and youth groups. Our masqueraders always have a fabulous time participating in this event and look forward to hitting the streets again in May 2006!"

Companies that would like to participate can get more information by calling Batabano committee Sara Jan-Evans on 925 0696. A Batabano meeting has been scheduled for 5:30 pm, Wednesday 12 April at Elizabethan Square for mas bands, corporate groups, DJs and food vendors. More details, including photo galleries and previews of this year’s costumes are available on the newly re-designed Cayman Carnival Batabano website – www.caymancarnival.com
