Since a majority of all the new account sign-ups all appear to be spam related accounts, I am temporarily suspending new user registrations. We will turn on new account registrations once we get the spam under control and make some planned changes to the site. Thank you for understanding.

I spent another big chunk of the day cleaning up spam. I will be so glad when we switch servers and upgrade the forums.

Okay, successfully cleaned the spam out of the Recipes section. The spammers keep trying though. Thousands of spam has been blocked, just in the last few days. I guess they think that by turning up the volume they can make me give up. Nope.

Luckily the changes I made have stopped new spam from being visible on the site. Their bots keep trying to register new users and post new spam, but at least 95% of it never is visible to other users.

Okay, I made a dent in the spam replies in the Caribbean Cooking & Recipes forum. Still several more pages to go, but at least we are closer to getting that forum section cleaned up.

Well, the spam cleanup continues. I have suspended hundreds of spammer accounts, most of which seem to be posting from China IP addresses. I've started looking up their IP address as I suspend their accounts and adding the country of origin to their profile.
We also have a spammer from India and the U.S. in addition to the one from China. The one from China is using some sort of automated script to post. Apparently it is not smart enough to know when their accounts are suspended and tries to log in and continue posting. I can see it in the logs.
Making progress on the cleanup though.

Okay, so I was able to delete nearly 1000 pieces of spam today. I will come back and keep cleaning. There is so much to do.
