In the U.S., they call it soccer so it won't be confused with American Football, but the rest of the world thinks it should be called football.

So, what do you think it should be called?

I think it should be called Soccer everywhere, because then there would be no confusion.  Everyone knows what Soccer is.  But with two different meanings of football (soccer vs. American football) it gets confusing.  They should just change the name of football to soccer to make everyone's life easier.

And here I thought it was just those wacky Americans!

I'm an American.

Hell, USA is the ONLY country in the WORLD that calls it 'soccer', and the game is played with the 'foot'! Now if that isn't a joke! What the americans refer to as 'football' is played with the 'hands'  99% of the time, except for kicking a field goal or punting the ball. What madness!

There are a lot of things in English that don't make sense.  American Football is usually thrown, not kicked.  We drive on a parkway, but park on a driveway.  The highway isn't always elevated. People at the airport want to pre-board the plane.  What does pre-board mean?  To get on before you get on?  Then they keep telling me to get ON the plane, but I'd rather get IN the plane.  Let some daredevil get ON the plane.
