I remember when the eye of the hurricane Alicia came directly over Houston.

And then we had that Tropical Storm that decided to stall over the top of Houston and then just rain and rain and rain.  Interstate Highway 10 turned into the I-10 Bayou!

I was in the last Hurrican that his Belize about two or three years ago that killed a couple of people because the ower of the boat they worked on told them that if they got off they would loose their jobs and would not bring the boat in to dock so the people could get off.  There were several tourists involved as well.  He has since been charged for that incident (an American Guy too)

It's sad that there are people like that in the world.

But that goes to show you that no matter how arrogant you may be, mother nature still has the upper hand.

I know that here in the states there are people who will purposely stay in the path of a hurricane to ride it out, even after the authorities have ordered everyone to evacuate the area.  Luckily most of them survive, but I'm sure that some have died doing it.

I remember Hurricane David in the 1980's and one called Hurricane Alan in the 80's as well. I left home the same year that Hurricane Hugo devasted Montserrat in 1989 but from all accounts it was horrible.
Montserrat, still home, still

Well, my dad stayed in Florida through all of the hurricanes that hit there!  He had some damage to his house, but he was pretty lucky.  Just some missing roof tiles and torn screens.

I was living in St Lucia on Aug 4th 1980 when hurricane Allan hit - you don't forget that in a hurry!
