Hi Scot,

Gotta comment - When I read the poll question, I immediately answered yes.  However my answer took into consideration the question of Karma as a buddhist or Hindu would.  For instance since reincarnation is a basic part of these religious philosophies,  one could well suppose that a person might have accumulated good karma in a past life; and even though in this life that person lives a life without practicing right living, that person could be seen to be enjoying his/her life, while in fact that person is simply ill using the positive karma gained in the past.   The negative karma being accumulated in this lifetime could play out in this or subsequent lifetimes.

After reading the replies and realizing that the statement below is what you were polling, I have to say that I don't necessarily believe that we will 'balance the chequebook' in this lifetime.

I was more interested in asking if people believed that "if we sow goodness, we will reap goodness; if we sow evil, we will reap evil" in this lifetime, regardless of whether you think there is a next lifetime.

Even if the checkbook doesn't get balanced, so to speak, in this lifetime, I think the principle still applies.  I can't say I believe in reincarnation, but I wouldn't rule it out either.

Hi Scott

Sorry to have misspelled your name; and yes, the principle certainly applies.

Happy Holidays to you and all

There is also the point that sometimes bad things have to happen for a greater good to be allowed to happen?

Thus, in Western Europe the Black Death led directly - though slowly - to the end of peasantry and the creation of a system where people were paid a fair wage to work, not just forced to work because they were born somewhere.

Good always comes out of bad.

True, opportunities often come disguised as misfortune.  A wise man will be able to spot the opportunities.

Perhaps a more accurate interpretation would be that we create our futures, and while circumstances may come that appear to be misfortunes, it is us who ultimately decide at a conscious and subconscious level whether they are or not.

Perhaps, more than anything, we get what we think we deserve, at a subconscious, not a conscious level.  Being "bad" induces feeling of guilt in the subconscious, which results in what we think is "bad karma."  But unfortunately, doing "good" deeds does not always induce feelings of deserving abundance and good fortune in the subconscious.  When it does, it probably results in what we think is "good karma."

I think that the universe, or God, if you will, is trying to help all of us out, trying to help us use the power and ability that we have been given in a positive way for ourselves and the world.

We have every opportunity to create a better life, regardless of the past.

I really hope there is karma.  Then those extremist Muslims will get what they deserve.  Or at the very least, I hope there is a hell and that they find themselves burning in hell for crimes against God.  I'd love to see the look on their faces when they get to hell instead of heaven like they thought.

Wow ... never imagine this could be a pretty picture!

Wouldn't that mean that through karma the evil would return to haunt our world ... I don't think I would want to wish that on anyone.

As they say be careful what we wish for.
