Thanks for the update.  I think I've finally found the culprits.  There are some old poorly designed pages that need to be redone, that when viewed take up all the resources until they appear.  It wasn't as big of an issue when we had less traffic, but now that we are busy, the inefficient pages are hurting us.  Most of those pages I have wanted to redesign for a long time, so now is an excuse to get to it.
